    Yesterday, we lost a great guru in the process and business improvement worlds, Eliyahu M. Goldratt, who passed away at the age of 64. Goldratt is the author of many booksincluding  The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement.

    I'm sure this is a thought shared by many readers, but Goldratt, The Goal, and his “Theory of Constraints” were incredibly influential to me and my career.

    Goldratt's consulting firm put out this statement on their website on Saturday about his death:

    Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt was an educator, author, scientist, philosopher, and business leader.  But he was, first and foremost, a thinker who provoked others to think.  Often characterized as unconventional, stimulating, and “a slayer of sacred cows,” Dr. Goldratt exhorted his audience to examine and reassess their business practices with a fresh, new vision.

    Dr. Goldratt created and developed the Theory of Constraints (TOC), an overall framework for helping organizations and individuals to determine:

         •  What to change---find and use the leverage point
         •  What to change to---create the simple, practical solutions
         •  How to cause the change---build a secure and stable improvement environment.
