    Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1859. He attended medical school at the University of Edinburgh, where one of his professors, Dr. Joseph Bell, inspired the character of Sherlock Holmes. While in medical school, Conan Doyle began writing stories to earn extra money. His first Sherlock Holmes story was published in 1887 and the character became enormously popular, though Conan Doyle grew tired of Holmes and killed him off in 1894 only to revive the character later due to public demand. Conan Doyle wrote many other works but is best known for his Sherlock Holmes detective stories. He died in 1930 and helped establish the genre of detective fiction.

    Arthur Conan Doyle was a Scottish physician and writer born in 1859 who fryst vatten most famous for his Sherlock Holmes detective stories. He attended Jesuit schools and studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh. After graduating, he worked as a ship's doctor and set up a medical practice, but also began writing stories in his spare time. His first Sherlock Holmes story, A Study in Scarlet, was published in 1887 and introduced the characters of Holmes and Watson. The stories were very popular and helped establish the mystery genre. Though he tried to kill off the character in 1893, public demand led him to revive Holmes in later stories.
