Dutch jazz/world music trio
Boi Akih is a jazz/world music trio based in Amsterdam, Netherlands and composed of Monica Akihary on vocals, Niels Brouwer on guitar.[1] The group combines musical traditions from the Molucca Islands, Bali, Dutch jazz, improvised music, Indian classical music, and traditional African music. Music is written by Brouwer and lyrics are written by Brouwer and Akihary.
History
[edit]Sandip Bhattachraya studied with Pandit Ishwar Lal Misra in the style of tabla musician Pandit Anokhelal Misra and has performed with Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Prabha Atre, Lakshmi Shankar, Shujaat Hussain Khan, Ustad Munawar Ali Khan, and Tarun Bhattacharya. Niels Brouwer studied at the Hilversums Conservatorium (Conservatorium van Amsterdam) Monica Akihary is a graduate of visual arts studies in Amsterdam and Yogyakarta (Akademi Seni Rupa). Both studied classical Indian music in Bangalore () and Mumbai ().

Among the youngest ragas to have found global acclaim, Antardhwani (Sound of the Inner Self’) was unveiled by Shivkumar Sharma in the s, who discovered its unique hexatonic shape by chance while retuning his santoor from one raga to another (although it is unknown which ones). Adapting the geometries of Bhairavi, the raga is adored for its calming, meditative flavours, partly inspired by the late Pandit’s lifelong love of yoga. Prakriti with the seldom-heard Viyogavarali (independently adapted from a Carnatic raga by S.N. Ratanjankar) while also lying proximate to Gujiri Todi (the same scale with tivra Ma) and Chandrakauns (minus re).
