Islamic preacher Zakir Naik’s father passes away
Zakir Naik is the youngest of Dr Abdul Karim’s five children. The octogenarian had been unwell for some time. He was declared dead at 3:30 am Sunday after suffering a heart attack. He was later buried at the Nariyalwadi burial ground at Mazagaon. Dr Zakir Naik was not present for the funeral, but his associates claimed he would soon return to India.
Naik came under the scanner of security agencies after Bangladeshi newspaper ‘Daily Star’ reported that Rohan Imtiaz, one of the perpetrators of the July 1 terror attack in Dhaka, ran propaganda on Facebook last year quoting Naik. The central government is also taking steps to ban Naik’s NGO Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) under stringent sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The Mumbai-based preacher has not returned to India since the controversy broke.
