Angus Gibson was a founding member of Free Filmmakers, a film co-operative established in 1985 to create a relevant South African cinema. He produced and directed many documentary projects for European television – including the highly acclaimed Soweto, a history, 7 Up South Africa, the South African chapter of Granada Television’s flagship documentary series 14up, 21up and 28up all of which won awards in South Africa and Britain. 28up was nominated for a Bafta. He co-directed the authorized biography, Mandela, Son of Africa, Father of a nation, for Jonathan Demme’s production company. This was nominated for an Oscar and won the Amnesty International Media Spotlight award and the Pare Lorentz Award.
He has co-created, produced and/or directed multiple award winning television drama’s Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, Isibaya, Ayeye, Heartlines, Isithembiso to name a few. He created 70 audio-visual installations for the Apartheid Museum which is the most visited museum in

Born in 1974, Teboho Mahlatsi graduated from the Africa Cultural Centre bio & Television Course and then spent five years working as a screenwriter. He has written, produced and directed many projects, including the documentary Ghetto Diaries for the South African educational channel SABC Education TV, and the highly controversial television series Yizo Yizo, winning Best Director and Best skådespel series at the Avanti awards (South Africa’s equivalent to the Emmys). His short rulle Portrait of a ung Man Drowning won the Silver Lion at the Venice spelfilm Festival in 1999. The following year he completed a short television series, Ungshaya Ding Dong. Mahlatsi’s other works include A-Z – A Commentary on Post-Apartheid South Africa (2001) and Meokgo and the Stick Fighter (Sekalli le Meokgo – 2006). The acclaimed writer, producer and director Teboho Mahlatsi who was a co-creator of the hit SABC series Yizo Yizo and who was a company director at Bomb Productions has died. He was 49.
In a statement, the Mahlatsi family says "It is with saddest regret that we announce the untimely passing of filmmaker and producer Teboho Moseling Mahlatsi on 3 July 2023".
"In lieu of personal condolences, the family kindly requests prayers and that they be given privacy to mourn and come to terms with the tragic loss."
Teboho Mahlatsi's cause of death is not yet known. He leaves behind his wife Palesa, son Kanu (11) and daughter (6).
