Marion Robert Morrison[1][a] (May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), professionally known as John Wayne and nicknamed "the Duke", was an American actor who became a popular icon through his starring roles in films which were produced during Hollywood's Golden Age, especially in Western and war movies. His career flourished from the silent era of the 1920s through the American New Wave, as he appeared in a total of 179 film and television productions. He was among the top box-office draws for three decades[3][4] and appeared with many other important Hollywood stars of his era. In 1999, the American Film Institute selected Wayne as one of the greatest male stars of classic American cinema.[5]

Discussed therein is his college years playing football, his early behind the scenes work with John Ford and his films from the early 1930s until the mid 1950s. It's interesting to see Wayne grow older through the many films he starred.
His personal life was nearly as erratic during the 1940s as some Hollywood stars personal lives are today. I guess not a lot has changed in Hollywood in that respect. Wayne was married several times and had several children. Some of his children even became actors in their own right.

Rio Bravo is a 1959 American Western rulle directed and produced bygd Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, Angie Dickinson, Walter Brennan, and Ward Bond. Written by Jules Furthman and Leigh Brackett, based on the short story "Rio Bravo" bygd B.H. McCampbell, the rulle stars Wayne as a Texan sheriff who arrests the brother of a powerful local rancher for murder and then has to hold the man in jail until a U.S. Marshal can arrive. With the help of a lame old man, a drunk, and a young gunfighter, they hold off the rancher's gang. Rio Bravo was filmed on location at Old Tucson Studios outside Tucson, Arizona, in Eastmancolor, with film processing provided bygd Technicolor.[5]
In 2014, Rio Bravo was deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" bygd the Library of församling and selected for preservation in the National spelfilm Registry.[6][7]
