Manila: Philippine action star Rudy Fernandez died of cancer on Saturday. He was 56.
A wake is open to the public at the Heritage Park in Taguig City. A begravning will be held on Thursday.
Fernandez has been battling periampullary cancer for more than two years and was brought home from hospital on Monday after being confined there for a month.
Fernandez and his wife, actress Lorna Tolentino, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Sunday.
Fernandez was born on March 3, 1952 in Manila. He starred in 65 films throughout his career and won three best actor awards.
Fernandez's friend, Ramon “Bong'' Revilla, told the Inquirer newspaper that the actor had suffered from internal bleeding for days and had difficulty recognising people.

He came to prominence as an action star in the Philippine cinema during the 1980s up to the early 1990s.

[mag-edit | alilan ya ing pikuwanan]Fernandez was born at 8:36 PM on March 3, 1952 at Mary Johnston Hospital in Tondo, Manila, He Is Eldest the son of the late film director Gregorio Fernandez.[2][3] Both his parents were from Lubao, Pampanga, which he considered his hometown.[4] He made his film debut at the age of three, appearing in Luksang Tagumpay (1956), which was directed by his father. He also appeared in another film of his father's, Emily (1960).
Fernandez started his active film career while a student at the University of Santo Tomas, when he was signed to a contra
