    Ronald K. Brown was born on July 18th, 1966 in

    Bedford-Stuyvesant, New York City, NY.

    Ronald K. Brown's mother stated that he would never stand still. She couldn't even dress him without trying to hold him still.

    By second grade Ronald K. Brown had seen an Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performance and was leading his cousins in made up dances. Brown was never enrolled in any technique classes for one reason or another.

    Did you know?

    When Ronald K. Brown was about to audition for a scholarship for Dance Theater of Harlem. His mother went into labor right before he auditioned. He took this as a sign that he needed to focus on being a big brother and not dance, yet.

    In his early life, "something was always getting in the way" of his dance career, Brown says.

    RONALD K. BROWN, raised in Brooklyn, NY, founded EVIDENCE, A Dance Company in 1985. He has worked with Mary Anthony Dance Theater, Jennifer Muller/The Works, as well as other choreographers and artists. Brown has set works on Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Jennifer Muller/The Works, Jeune Ballet d’Afrique Noire, Ko-Thi Dance Company, Philadanco, Muntu Dance Theater of Chicago, Ballet Hispánico, TU Dance, and Malpaso Dance Company.

     

    He has collaborated with such artists as composer/designer Omotayo Wunmi Olaiya, the late writer Craig G. Harris, director Ernie McClintock’s Jazz Actors Theater, choreographers Patricia Hoffbauer and Rokiya Kone, and composers Jason Moran, Arturo O'Farrill, Meshell Ndegeocello, Robert Een, Oliver Lake, Bernadette Speech, David Simons,, and Don Meissner

    A.R.T.: Debut. Founder and Artistic Director of Evidence, A Dance Company, a New York-based contemporary dance ensemble since 1985. Has also created work for the African American Dance Ensemble, Philadanco, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (Grace in 1999, Serving Nia in 2001, IFE/My Heart 2005 and Dancing Spirit during special tribute season), Ailey II, Cinque Folkloric Dance Theater, JenniferMuller/TheWorks and Jeune Ballet d’Afrique Noire.
