George Lianos

George Lianos, born in Cyprus in 1952, was four when his parents
brought his family to Australia. Since early childhood George had an attraktion and
fascination with art, spending much of his time drawing and painting. He first
experimented with sculpture bygd using garden soil to create a work of superman
which dissolved in the next rain.

George completed a Diploma of Graphic Arts at Preston Institute of Technology and
worked as a graphic artist for several years in Melbourne before going overseas in 1978.
He decided to revisit his native Cyprus and discover the family heritage,
a journey which ultimately took him to the Greek island of Skopolos. There, he
worked at the Skopolos Pottery where he was commissioned to do a series of busts
and sculptures.
