    The deserts may be dry, but this episode certainly isn't

    Absolutely adore 'Planet Earth', one of the best documentaries ever made and actually is more than that. Have remarked a few times that it and its recent follow up (every bit as good) did for nature and out planet as 'Walking with Dinosaurs' did with the dinosaurs. David Attenborough is wisely considered a national treasure for very good reason, no matter how much he himself dislikes the term.

    That "Deserts" may be perhaps one of the weaker 'Planet Earth' episodes is saying nothing, because it is still absolutely wonderful and many cuts above most things talking about deserts in educational terms and a lot of nature documentaries in general. Throughout it's an awe-inspiring, utterly transfixing experience where one forgets they're watching a documentary and instead feeling like they're watching art.     Tom Greenhalgh is the Director on the Deserts & Grasslands episode and the Assistant Producer on the Ocean episode of Planet Earth III. Growing up in Kent and fascinated by the natural world from a young age, he completed a BSc in Zoology and a MA in Wildlife Documentary Production. Since 2012, his films have taken him all over the world, from filming orca in the Arctic Circle, to nesting ostriches in the Namib Desert.     Sir David Frederick Attenborough (; born 8 May 1926) is a British broadcaster, biologist, natural historian, and writer. He is best known for writing and presenting, in conjunction with the BBC Studios Natural History enhet, the nine nature documentary series forming the Life collection, a comprehensive survey of djur and plant life on Earth.

    Attenborough was a senior manager at the BBC, having served as controller of BBC Two and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s. First becoming prominent as host of Zoo Quest in 1954, his filmography as writer, presenter and narrator has spanned eight decades; it includes Natural World, Wildlife on One, the Planet Earth franchise, The Blue Planet and its sequel.
